How to add Tickers and Avatars
« on: March 10, 2010, 01:43:53 PM »
This first thing you need to know is you can create & post a ticker right away, but you have to have posted 10 times before you can post your picture avatar.  That helps keep the spammers from jumping in here with bad content.

TICKERS:  When you click on anyone's ticker, it takes you to the tickerfactory.com website where you can customize your own.  At the bottom of the first page you click to save & continue to the next page. At the end make sure to choose "DARK" as the backround option so your info shows up on our pages.  When you're finished, scroll down to the bottom & look for the "BB" (bulletin board) code.  Copy the whole thing & paste it into the signature box of your profile. To open & edit your profile, click on your screen name, or on "PROFILE" in the band above this message window to the left.  Look for "Modify Profile" in the menu on the left and click on "Forum Profile Information".   Scroll down to your signature box and paste the TICKER info. After you're finished, scroll down to the bottom right & click the "Change profile" button.

TO ADD PICTURE: Open & edit your profile, click on your screen name, or on "PROFILE" in the band above this message window to the left.  Look for "Modify Profile" in the menu on the left and click on "Forum Profile Information".  Click on "I have my own pic".  Next to it is the box is where you paste the URL, IMG, or BB code that you copied from the pic.  Delete any text from this box first.  Anytime you modify your profile you need to scroll down to the bottom right side of the page & click the "Change profile" button to save the changes.

AVATARS: Your profile information page is also where you can EITHER 1) post your picture avatar using the "Direct Link" code from Photobucket or another online picture management site.  Please crop & resize your picture to be no larger than 150 x 150 for the avatar.  This will keep our Forum boards running faster.

After you're finished, scroll down to the bottom right & click the "Change profile" button to save the changes.

I added the ticker for a couple of days, but mine showed my current weight if you clicked on it.   I assumed that only I could see that, but I had Owensmath test it, and she could see it too!  I quickly removed it. ha ha  Is there a way to set it up so that when others click on it, it won't show this.

I figure another 50lbs and I won't mind, but right now.....it's still embarassing.

Yes, when you set up your ticker click on "private data" instead of "public data".  Test out on mine, you should not be able to see anything other than my weight change.

Thanks so much ladies!

Shihtzumom1, I clicked on yours and saw no personal info, so I will give the ticker another try.  I sure hope Owensmath sees this too & tries it!

Joagain, I know I shouldn't be embarassed, but I have been giving this website out to EVERYBODY who asks how I'm losing weight.  I sure wouldn't mind my FTS family knowing my weight  :-*.......but my co-workers that I see everyday  :o....I'm just not ready!  ha ha

I'm not sure what the problem with your avator is. Are you first saving the pic to an offline photo storage site like imageshack or photobucket? If not, I suggest you do that, and then try again.
