General Discussion / Happy 1 week into the new year!
« on: January 07, 2012, 03:47:25 PM »
Hi everyone!! I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas and a Happy New Year! I haven't been on in a little while. Christmas with a 13, 7 and 5 year old just about drove me bonkers!!! I gained a couple of pounds around Christmas but I didn't stress about it like I usually do. I've been back to my new way of eating and it's coming off once again. Rick and I joined the gym last week to get in some cardio until softball season starts up again. Well I should say I do the cardio, Rick walks around looking in the mirror with his chest bowed out making these grunting noises along with the other guys there! Weirdos! LOL! I just wanted to drop in and say Hello to everyone and I hope y'all are doing well. I'll check back in more now that life is calming back down! 2012 is our skinny year!  ;) ;) :) :)

Thanks everyone for the nice words!!

I always find the weekends hard for me. I always say "oh this one meal won't hurt" and I end up eating the wrong things when we go out for dinner. Well not this weekend! Not one time did I stray from my new way of life!! It felt so good!!!

So I work in a medical office and our pharmaceutical reps are always bringing by pens, post it's, cool little things like that. Well I walk into the break room this morning and HOLY COW there were 2 boxes of gourmet cupcakes, a box of cookies, chocolate covered pecans, caramel covered pecans and a whole bunch of other stuff that's just sugar disguised as a pastry!! The rep says "merry christmas, i brought everyone presents!!" I said "uhhh... a coach purse would do much better!" LOL!!! I have a great working relationship with this particular rep (we always exchange what "diet" we are on this week) and I explained to him that I was cutting wayyyyyy back on my sugar intake and that I was no longer on a diet. So I told him all about the book and walked away with NO little sugar devils! YAY me!!! (wow... still can't believe I did that!!)

I wanted to jump in and introduce myself... not sure if this is the right page to do it on, so forgive me if it's not. Hello my name is Cindy and I eat way to much sugar without even realizing it! Whewwww... glad I got that out! LOL!

On a serious note, I was strolling through the book store one day a few weeks ago to find another "diet" book to try, which is what I usually do when I've had a "come to jesus" meeting with myself. So I came across this very colorful book that had the words FAT and SKINNY on the front and thought HA! That's me and that's what I want to be! So here I am! I am so excited about this!! I could actually understand this book and fully understand just how much sugar is in food that you don't even think about being in there. It turned my stomach to think about sitting in front of a sugar bowl and eating teaspoon after teaspoon of sugar. Yuck!!! So after reading and planning my weekly meals out, I went to the grocery store (which I looove to do, I know, I'm weird..) and I made Doug's Lasagna made with Zucchini, which I brought for lunch today and am enjoying as I type!

I have done it all, Atkins, south beach, weight watchers, diet pills, etc, etc and yep even went on an adventure from Atlanta to Tijuana Mexico and had the lap band procedure done. I wasn't "fat" enough to have it done in the states at 5'4" and 222lbs BUT I could travel across the boarder and have it done no problem. AND then after I reached my first goal of 160lbs and then my pouch began to stretch, I would have to once again travel to Mexico for any advice or help. As a single mom of 2, Tijuana trips don't really fit into the budget. After my second trip there, I was told "your band is fine, you're at perfect restriction" ummm ok.... Why am I 185lbs then?? I don't feel full anymore... So I came home hopeless again... Now at 201lbs, I realized it wasn't my band that failed me... I learned how to cheat it. And how did I do this... carbs, carbs, sugar, sugar!!! It wasn't until this book that I realized that it was my fault. But now I have a whole different outlook on things and I know I CAN DO THIS! It just feels different. I will NOT be the cute curvy girl with the pretty face much longer... Some curves are just not meant to be! So anyway, sorry this was so lengthy, but I am a talker! lol I look forward to cyberly meeting all of you! And thank you, thank you, thank you Doug for writing the book!!! And Umpa, I will definitely be using your page to over-haul some recipes!  ;)
