General Discussion / Question about erythritol
« on: March 21, 2011, 06:03:29 PM »
I am really confused about sugar alcohols specifically erythritol.  The label on my erythritol says that it has 6 alcohol sugars per servings which is a tablespoon.  The label lists it as a carb but when I looked it up on line the information stated that you don't count sugar alcohols as carbs.  Can someone please explain to me if I count this as carbs or not?  Thanks!!!

General Discussion / question on sweetners
« on: March 20, 2011, 01:16:47 PM »
OK, I am trying to get myself organized for starting the program tomorrow.  One potential stumbling block for me is sweeter for tea and coffee.  For  tea I am OK using stevia.  But,  I can't stand stevia in coffee.  And, I am basically against artificial sweeteners.  In my research on this issue I found out that cubes of sugar are only 2g per cube.  Do you think it is OK to use a cube or two every so often (making sure to mind my carbs) or is sugar a total no-no and only artificial sweeteners are OK?  Thanks!

General Discussion / Any Newbie Advice?
« on: March 20, 2011, 08:22:13 AM »
Hello All, some of you may remember that about a week ago I was on here posting asking if this diet was OK for people who need to be gluten free.  Well, you all were so wonderful and I deeply appreciated all of your help!  I took a week to really think if I was ready for this.  I had to really figure out if I was willing to do this because, on some level, it feels like it is going to be really hard.  I've tried low carb programs before and couldn't stick with them.  But, I decided that I am ready to get this weight off.  As I wrote before I am 40 yrs old and my DH and I would like  to try to have a baby. My doc said if I could lose between 30-50lbs she would support it.  So, starting tomorrow I am ready and starting this program.
But, I am feeling overwhelmed.  Food, carbs, calories.....all of it totally overwhelms me.  Maybe that is how I got so big in the first place.  I have read the book and the program seems simple but I still am really afraid that I won't get it right.  Can anyone give me some advice?
Thanks so much and hope you all have a great day!!

I found your site today because I was I was searching for a high fiber, low carb program.  I am in a desperate situation.  I am 305lbs, 5'8", and  a month away from my 41st birthday. My doctor has informed me that if I could get my weight down to 250lbs I could try to get pregnant with my first child.  For the last two years, I have been doing everything I can to get the weight off and have only been able to get off about 25lbs on my own.  What I have learned over the last two years is that I need low carb foods and high fiber seems to be important as well.  I just can't seem to get the whole picture though and I am tired of struggling on my own.
The big problem I have is that I have Celiac's disease so getting fiber from wheat, barely, or rye is out.  I actually found your site through the GG Bran Crispbread website but sadly it is a product that I can not eat.  My question to you is do you ever work with people who can't eat gluten?  I've been told that taking in fiber from things like beans is just too high in carbs to be effective on a low carb diet.  So, would your program still work for me??
I would really appreciate any advice or feedback that you could provide.  I am really trying to do all of the right things.  I am willing to work really hard to get this weight off, I just need to be pointed in the right direction.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this!
Sincerely,
Gabrielle
