As soon as I read your recipe, I got up and made it. I used only 2 and 1/2 Apriva (a Kroger brand sweetner). It was great!
thank you!
-
I calculated 13 carbs...is that for one serving? Each packet of Splenda, which is 2 tsp, has 1 carb. One for the egg and 2 for the cocoa.
-
Dont use splenda.
-
Use stevia or xylitol and you will erase those carbs. This is a great idea Izzet came up with for instant gratification! :)
-
I tried it the other night and it was fantastic!!
-
Making this for dessert tonight :P
-
me too Paula if I have cocca I wonder if I can use sf chocolate sryup instead ?
-
I definitely don't use splenda, but that is all some people have. I personally use xylitol or in a pinch truvia. My Food Lion brand cocoa has no carbs so none there. About the egg thing...my eggs say no carbs and I use the Egglands best and Nature's Harvest that also say no carbs and have the omega-3s in them.
I love this recipe and glad to hear everyone else is too. My husband even liked it. ;)
-

-

-

This the best flour-less chocolate mug cake-try it
1 egg, beaten well
1/2 tsp. vanilla
...
1 Tbs. heavy cream or half/half or CC milk
2 Tbs. cocoa
5 tsp. of xylitol or 10pk Splenda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 Tbs. softened butter
In a small bowl, beat egg with fork and add in the rest of the ingredients-pour into 8 oz mug and Microwave for one minute
top with homemade whipped cream ;0
I made this tonight and it was awesome. I wanted something like chocolate cake and this certainly did the trick. The first time I tried I didn't have a tall enough mug and ended up with a big mess on the bottom tray in my microwave. This time I used my 2 cup Pyrex measuring cup and microwaved it for 1 1/2 minutes and it turned out great. Topped with a little ReddiWhip. Mmmmmmmmmm good.............and no guilt!!
-
I made this last night, and it was AMAZING!!! When it was done, I put a few chopped walnuts on top. Also, I found that Land of Lakes makes a "redi whip" with no sugar! I piled it high, and it was totally delicious. I am not missing the sugar at all!! Wow!!!

Today is my daughter's birthday and she expects a cake. I am the only one in my household with weight and food issues. They are able to eat one small piece and be satisfied. Previously they would eat their one small piece and I would eat the rest of it (not in one sitting, but they never feel the need to have a second piece). So I have decided to make individual Flourl-less Chocolate Mug Cakes for us. Everyone likes chocolate & Reddi Whip, so we can all have our one serving, there will be no leftovers, and no guilt. I'll let you know tomorrow what they thought of this idea.
-
tell her happy birthday
-
What a great idea schihtzumom!
-
Well the individual Flourless Chocolate Mug Cakes were a hit. My thin daughter only ate 1/2, that was enough for her (she got a candle on hers). Her boyfriend ate the whole thing and thought it was very good. My thin husband rarely eats dessert and didn't want any. My son was not home for dinner and said he would eat his tonight (he didn't feel the need to eat it as soon as he got home). I enjoyed mine without guilt, so it worked out well. If I had gone out and bought a DQ ice cream cake like my daughter usually requests, I would have 3/4 of a cake leftover in the freezer, and now that I am no longer the family garbage disposal, it would have been thrown out.
-
I love this idea for kids because they can pick their own ingredients.Really great idea ;D
-
That is so awesome and a great idea! I'm so happy that it has been a great hit as I just love it! :) I found the Land O Lakes once but can't find it anymore and can't remember where I found it. lol
-
I found it at Publix finally
-
I wish we had one here in Richmond, VA. I hear they have great deals. I will keep searching but I usually just make my own with heavy whipping cream and xylitol and it tastes much better. It's just he convenience of the can that is nice when I don't have time or don't feel like making some. lol
-
I'm confused about the carb count in this. How much is it?
Also, can you use SF syrups in replace of the sweetener?
-
I would say 1 carb for the egg and 2 carbs for the unsweetened cocoa if you use the xylitol instead of splenda and stick with the heavy cream that's it :) YES you can use sugar free syrups to replace sweeteners but remember o make allowance for the extra liquid.
-
Thanks, Doug. I'll give it a try sometime. Not tonight, though. I'm itchin' to be able to change my ticker! ;)
-
Check the label on your cocoa Rena. I use Frye's cocoa and it is 0 carbs. The store brand NoName has carbs, they must have fillers in it.
-
Does it really require 10 packets of Splenda? Yikes!
I have Stevia in packets, do I need that many? Really?
-
Ok, I made this tonight and used Stevia instead - 4 pks.
Let me tell you it was AWFUL.
I only had no name cocoa (it had carbs, but I had enough to spare), and it was so overpoweringly bitter and had that yukky fake sugary taste....
Perhaps it was just the Stevia, I followed everything the same as everyone else appears to have.
Oh dear......I had to throw it out!
-
I just dont like the MIM I have tried and tried any of the things that you make in the micro . I think unless I make Umpas cakes they just are not gonna do it . Try Umpas PB cookies they are veryyyyyyyyyyyyy good ! I am making some next week when I get my xylitol. No sugar alcohols in them .
-
Oh Jo, it was AWFUL!
-
Xylitol is better for baking.
-
I'll have to get some and try it again maybe....I really needed something sweet and after your post yesterday really wanted to try it....sometimes you just shouldn't digress from the original recipe eh?
-
I still haven't tried it, but thanks for the tip, ShihTizuMom. Right now we only have Splenda and I use that sparingly. We bought a big box at Costco a long time before starting FTS and I wanted to use most of it up before buying something new. I'll give this recipe a try sometime, though.
I do like the One-Minute Muffin mix with chocolate syrup in it, which to me, is pretty cake-like.
-
Yes it is good with the 5 tsp. of xylitol. I made it in my 2 cup pyrex measuring cup (I used a coffee mug the first time and it overflowed and made a big mess). I microwaved it for 1 1/2 minutes. I used Fry's Cocoa and it was 0 net carbs.
-
I ran back across this recipe tonight and had forgotten how good it is. I thought I'd post to put this back up as current so some of the new folks could try it. Be sure to us a HUGE coffe cup or a small pyrex dish. Mine kinda ran over the top during cooking. SOOO good! ;)
-
Instant chocolate fix! ::)

What is CC milk?
-
coconut milk , almond milk, 1/2 and 1/2, or whipping cream would all work ;)

Thanks!

You are welcome :)

Hi there,
Check the label on your cocoa Rena. I use Frye's cocoa and it is 0 carbs. The store brand NoName has carbs, they must have fillers in it.
I saw this post about cocoa with zero carbs - is it available online anywhere?
The lowest carb cocoa I can get here in Australia is 11.4 g of carbs per 100g.
Would love a "no carb" cocoa!
-
Food Lion brand is 0 carbs, but 0 carb cocoa powders are hard to find. You dont need a lot of powder for recipes usually just a couple tablespoons. What are you trying to make?
-
Hi Umpa,
I use cocoa daily (hot chocolate or choc shake). Every little carb saving counts.
While we do have at least one good online store in Australia for low carb products (www.lowcarbcentral.com.au (http://www.lowcarbcentral.com.au)) our supermarkets have nothing that is specifically low carb. It is very hard to find anything sugar free that does not contain malitol and similar "tummy" issue products. I keep waiting for the low carb penny to drop...taking a long time I must say.
I mostly use regular foods (meat, veges, cream cheese, cream, frozen berries) but it is nice to have a good supply of low carb items to supplement things.
I would order the Lion zero carb cocoa if it was available online - have not found it anywhere so far though.
Another thing we do not have here is unsweetened baker's chocolate. The closest I have found is cooking chocolate but it contains about 55 c per 200g block (similar to Lindt).
We Aussies just have to be more inventive to keep things interesting. Sites like yours help tremendously!
-
IGA and selected chemists stock chocolate by the Sugarless Company -dark choc has malitol but only has O.002/sq (8g) which I use for cooking. It is expensive at around $6/200g (?) block. Still works out cheaper than having to pay postage. I have tried various avenues to obtain some. Amazon wanted to charge something like $24 for postage: Then no longer shipped food items to Australia. If you find something let me know :)
There is a thread on the forum where we talked about a mix of cocoa & copha as 'emergency' baking choc.
-
If I can help you convert your recipes just go to the homepage and ask Umpa.Do you have the Fat to Skinny Bakery book? You can get it free with 50 posts ;) I tried to use products that are in the grocery store.
-
I just saw this recipe and am going to give it a try once I can find the no carb cocoa.
-
Hi Morgan,
Yes, I've seen the Sugarless Company products. I tried the white chocolate and loved it. BUT! Regretted it afterwards. The darn malitol - packs a putrid punch.
No malitol for me anymore.
I can eat the The Well Naturally milk chocolate without any side effects - just have to watch the portion size. A bar is 45 g and around 4c I think.
I am going to research cocoa more fully over Easter and will let you know how that goes.
Thanks for the tip about cocoa and copha as Baker's choc substitute. Will add that to my bag of tricks.
I do order things from Amazon every so often. Hating waiting for overseas deliveries to arrive though - gosh I'm impatient!
Will keep you posted of any good finds (hopefully local).
-
Thanks Umpa for offer of help with recipe conversion.
My issue is more about sourcing basic products with low or zero carb count. Very little available here in Australia.
I have purchased the bakery book and the regular cookbook and the product book. Great reading!
Have purchased zucchini and hope to make your carrotless carrot cake in next day or so.
-
Grandsons favorite! Just follow the directions exactly ;)
-
Oh my goodness, this is a real treat. My husband even liked it, and that's saying a LOT! LOL..... I got a really good organic cocoa powder and watched the carb count. The container is at home, but is wasn't bad at all. Treated a few people at work along with the ready whip. they loved it. I LOVE THIS FORUM!!!
-
This is a great recipe for people on the go! ;)
-
If you feel like a nut... :P Try folding in a handful of chopped walnuts. ;D ;D ;D

I was actually thinking of instead of vanilla extract to put in almond extract and then a few crushed almonds. Might give this a try this weekend. How do you think some almond flour...not much...would work? Maybe 1 tspn?
-
Yes.Ereino you are 29 pounds down ,that is awesome!!!! ;D
-
Hooray on the 29 pound loss, Ellie! :) :) :) :) :)
Almonds are another good option.
So are peanuts or pistachios.
I discovered that changing the extract flavor
often makes a world of difference in the taste.
