Post by: Doug Varrieur on August 26, 2011, 09:03:36 AM
Candied Turnips

2-3 yellow turnips peeled and sliced into 1/4 inch chips
1/4 cup sugar free maple syrup
2 teaspoons butter

Fry the turnip slices in a non stick skillet in butter over medium heat until both side of the slices reach a golden brown. Reduce the heat to low and pour in the maple syrup making sure all sides of the slices are well coated. Cook the slices for 2-3 minutes then remove the skillet from the heat

Wow!  Great idea Doug!!  I used to love candied yams that Mom cooks in her black iron skillet.  This would be a great substitute for me!  Thanks!!

They are good Jan, I grew up with candied parsnips cooked the same way then candied with brown sugar, this recipe replaces those for me.  Enjoy!  8)

When I was young my Mom grew parsnips...in fact she still does :) To make them really delish for us kids she would fry them in butter, then caramelize them with more butter and brown sugar. I developed this replacement dish and BOY does it do the job!
