Yes it does Tony...thanks for sharing that with us.  I think I'm going to give myself a personal challenge to not even have anything artificially sweet for a whole week and see what happens     :o :o  Oh the thought really scares me Haha   which brings me to my point....I think I am still obsessed with anything sweet   :-\   I shall start tomorrow morning and see how long I can go without going nuts   ;D

I particularly like this statement in the article:

"... if you drink Diet Coke instead of water, you are much, much more likely to indulge in cake,
cookies, candy and so on, because Diet Coke tastes sweet and spurs that craving for more sweets."


The longer we can stay away from sweets, the easier it will be to resist them.
And each day we do it, is a little easier than the last.
After we detox, this is how overcoming ANY addiction works.

Also, this reflects on my insistence that most of us don't drink enough PLAIN water!
When we substitute another beverage in it's place, there is a price to be paid.
I'm not saying that we can't enjoy an occasional drink of something else.
As long as we remember that as recovering carb addicts, we are prone to overdoing it.

Shawn, I know you can resist sweets if you really COMMIT to it EACH day! :) :) :)
Each morning tell yourself, "Today, I will NOT eat sweets!". And don't worry about tomorrow.
Do this one day at a time. ;)

I gave myself that personal challenge - 14 days of no artificial sweetners, sweet things, treats and baked goods.  I only had a few strawberries in the first week.  I'm on day 12 and I can tell you it is the pips, I still crave sweet things.  I thought 2 weeks, as it is 2 weeks for sugar detox.  I just miss having 'something'.  Is it all in my mind? A 'reward' thing?
My time is up on Monday, though that doesn't mean I will hop straight back into 'sweet mode'.  I will just take one day at a time.  I don't want this lifestyle to make an issue of everything I put in my mouth - actually I don't want to think about it at all - just make it a total habit.


PS- going nuts is a prerequisite  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Usually, when I restart the FTS lifestyle (so sad I've done this more than once >:O) I abstain from sweeties for a month...because with me, there is no CONTROL...it's either a whole pie or no pie at all...FTS friendly or not. It's best I live as much as possible without real sweets. I just turn to my yogurt instead. Maybe one day I'll have the strength to make it without totally.

Thanks Tony   ;D  I will sure need the encouragement Haha  All my life I have always thought I had to have something sweet to end a meal.   :-\  It is such a habit and ingrained into my mind.  I sometimes wonder if it isn't just like being addicted to carbs.  I haven't had real sugar since I started FTS over 2 years ago but I don't go a day without having at least some sugar free hard candies.  I don't drink sodas very often so that's not a problem.    I think it brings up a good point

Hooray Morgan on taking control of the "sweets" monster! :) :) :)
Hang in there!... You'll notice those urges getting weaker in time.

Those of us with "sweet teeth" (like me), need time to break those strong sweets urges.
And like you Shawn, I thought that a "desert" had to follow a meal as the last course.

Part of FTS is making us the master over food. And not, the other way around.
It's a matter of resolve to break free and take control!
It CAN be done!... I know because I did it! :)

Our minds are powerful "muscles".
But like any muscle, they must be trained to be strong and healthy.
Exercise is the only way to make mental and physical muscles stronger.
For our minds, discipline is exercise.

We must set goals we can imagine. Or we won't achieve them.
So allow yourself a sweet "reward" after a time of successful abstinence.
And then, get right back on track until the next goal is met.

In time, you will be able to tame that "sweet tooth" that exists in your minds.
And still enjoy sweet treats as intended... on a occasional basis, only! ;)

It's a true topic i like to eat sweets but before my marriage i use to eat sweets for every 15th day in a month at that time my weight is 65kgs after marriage i started eat sweets daily now my weight is 72kgs really sweets can increase the fat rapidly so be aware from the sweets..... :)

I am not allowing myself anything sweet at all until Aug 3 my birthday . I intend not to have sweets then either . I love all the FTS sweets but I think they need to be a special treat for me right now not a daily thing

Avoiding sweets for a period of time will maximize your progress. 8)

It's VERY important that we remember should NOT to eat them daily!
For some folks, sweets can stop progress cold.

I'm a sugar addict as well, but I'm struggling hard to reduce my sugar intake :(
Make use of the BMR calculator to calculate your basal metabolic rate and see if you are above or below required caloric intake. http://healthiack.com/bmr-calculator

Welcome to the FTS family, jbb85!!! :) :) :) :) :) :)

We are recovering carbaholics (sugar addicts)!
To overcome our addiction, we replace the sugary poisons with healthy low carb alternatives.

If you are just starting with FTS, you are experiencing "sugar detox".
During detox, our bodies have unusually strong cravings for carbs.
If you have healthy low carb alternatives on hand, you can beat them.

So make sure you always have something available when a craving strikes.
And when away from home, carry sugar free gum or candy with you.

You'll know you've passed sugar detox when...
The craving for carbs will go WAY down.
And your energy level will go thru the roof! ;D

Tony is right, sugar detox is rough for some folks but thankfully it passes quickly.  Hang in there with us and you will do fine.  Come in the forum often...it's a great way to find support and stay on track.   ;)
