What happened with this reality show?  I just watched the clip and the end got me all welled up!  Admittedly, I'm a total sap, but how amazing for that family.  I hope they're still doing well on the F2S program.

It's still being pitched by my agent......the show is really wholesome and unfortunately the networks want the big mean screaming machine...not my style, I just want to help people not degrade them on national television.  8)

That's a bummer.  I don't watch television and haven't since I was 18--when dinosaurs roamed the Earth (I know, weird-o alert!   :P), but I've seen bits and pieces of shows when at people's houses.  I really can't get over what gets by on TV anymore!  And the meanness!!!  It's horrible.  I know people who love to watch the Biggest Loser, and just seeing one episode, it looks like human abuse to me.  Making people cry, degrading them, calling them names, all in the name of 'love and support'--that doesn't jive with me.

Good luck on your show.  If there's somewhere we can write to (a TV station or whatever) to support you, pass it along.

Oh yes I totally agree that biggest loser is down right mean!!!!!  Totally agree most TV is pure trash too.
But oh I love all your little videos you do Doug, loved that family, boy did that encourage me to see what each of them looked like 45 days latter was so awesome.  I watched about every clip you all have on Youtube too, love watching you cook.  Doug has your agent checked  with Daystar network or TBN, might be a great opportunity there. Keep on keeping on God will lead and guide.

I don't understand how some parents will allow their kids (including teens) watch these so-called "reality" shows that have people treat each other so badly.
What is the entertainment value it them?... Most of them are just plain SICK (and I mean that in a BAD way)!
In fact, these shows are not good for ANY healthy psyche of ANY age.

Is it any wonder that bullying among our youth has hit an all time high even resulting in suicides?
It just breaks my heart! :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

I guess helping others isn't enough anymore...

You are correct. But I think its how you raise your kids.I was taught to help others and be kind.Bullying was never allowed being from a military family.I see the bullying now ,kids committing suicide and I say where are the parents and teachers??Why is this allowed?

In this era, we see "absentee" parenting due to our culture and the relentless attack on the family.
That is why this is allowed.
The family unit is the foundation of any culture.
And without a good foundation, any structure will have major problems.

What the parents feed their children's minds, sooner or later comes back as attitudes and behaviors.
Children raised well are much less likely to exhibit poor choices.
They're taught which way to go (and not go) in various real life situations.

If the children are not given good compasses at home, with very few exceptions, they're likely not to get them at school either.

That's true too, Umpa.

There will always be the "daredevil" personality types.
Those kids simply need closer supervision than others.

My oldest son was that way when he was growing up.
But living through the divorce of his mother and me was difficult for him and no doubt contributed.

I think statue of limitations run out on  blaming your parents when you are 21.Whatever you do after that you only have yourself to blame ;)

18 is the demarcation line between being a minor and an adult.
At 21, you're now old enough to legally buy booze and, therefore you're on your own! :)

When my kids turned 18, I told them that 18 only got them 2 things:  the right to vote and adult sentences if they got into trouble with the law.

I have 5 daughters.  Two of them followed a traditional path:  college in 4 years, careers, marriage, kids.  The other three took longer to accept adulthood.  I think we parent to the best of our ability and agree that eventually we all need to embrace our pasts and move on.

What a nice idea for a show! OF course, nobody is screaming or waking up at 4am to work out for 8 hours straight. The major networks would probably say there's not enough "drama" in it (or blood for that matter). Of course, you're not helping them sell high carb garbage either during commercial break.

Have you ever considered doing a PBS special?

While I was a responsible kid, I had an extend adolescence myself. I'm a GEN X-ER and I think it's just indicative of our generation. Andrea, I SO AGREE with the idea of embracin the past and moving on. That's what I'm doing right now!

So maybe the reality show needs to have a detective show format.  The FTS unit can investigate and find all the hidden sugar.

How about a hero YORKIE sniffing out the hidden sugah in children's houses. The more I live FTS, the more I see carbs everywhere. My friends are becoming aware of it, too, especially now that they're eating with me.

Great advise Andrea ~ I know in my mind that this is what I need to do but doing it is way more difficult!  Especially when both of my kids (18 & 20) act like they are part of the "entitlement program" and act like me and their dad were the worst parents on the planet.  Sorry ya'll ~ guess reading this put me in a sad mood :)

Hi Kim! :)

There's no need to feel sad.

Kids will try to "guilt" their parents to giving into their wishes.
I believe that this happens more these days due to the "entitlement" mentality in our culture.

There were times years ago that my kids acted this way.
You and your hubby should just stand your ground and don't give in.

Trust me... Your kids will (eventually) respect you much more if you do. That was the case with my kids.
Now that they're all grown, we have a fantastic relationships with each other!
And, they are well equipped to successfully raise their own families.

Just hang in there kiddo! ;)

Tony

Kim,
It's temporary but a bit longer lasting than you think it should be.  By 25, all is well.

My youngest brother and sister were "entitled" in the worst meaning of the word.  My mom was unable or unwilling to stand up to them and, when she died and the spigot was turned off, they couldn't maintain their families' standard of living.  It was horrible to watch and she thought she was helping while she was setting them up for failure.  It is an object lesson for all of us.

OMG - I LOVE this idea!!!! ;D

I agree. The more I think about low carb, the more high carb stuff I see. It's kind of crazy.
