Title: Tossing the Scale
Post by: SherriPie on August 02, 2011, 08:07:23 AM
I was reading a post by Umpa the other day about how she doesn't let the scale dictate her life. She goes by how her clothes fit. I am going to try this method for a month.

It's really exciting finally to have lost the weight. Just yesterday I was at lunch with a friend and she told me I needed to stop losing because I was getting to thin. LOL, no one has ever told me that in my life! I feel like I'm doing pretty good with the maintenance part, it's just I hate the scale. One day I'm up a half a pound the next down two, it is always changing and if I'm up even an ounce it ruins my day. So as of this morning I'm putting the scale away and going by how my clothes fit. I am in love with Old Navy. Never in my life have I been able to shop there. They have these fantastic fitting jeans, in Tall none-the-less, and I love them. So as long as all my new jeans are all comfy, I'm going to assume I'm doing good.

So scale...you can take a 30 day vacation...we'll see you again in september.

What am I going to do everyday without that stress? Maybe have a party?? LOL

Hi Sherri! :)

Like Umpa said, you don't need the training wheels anymore.
You can now live like a person that is NOT preoccupied with her weight.

Scales can be crutches that feed that "weight" preoccupation.
Use that energy for persuits that are MUCH more fun!

So let your clothes tell you how you're doing.
That's the way skinny folk do it!... You've joined their ranks. So go party on, girl! :)

Good luck, Sherri! Let us know how it works for you. Mostly by that I mean mental-wise. I don't know if I could do it. I keep getting told the same thing about being too skinny. It's weird to hear that because when I look in the mirror I see areas that need work or weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/). I guess I need to focus more on toning those places than worry about what the scale says. I deliberately set my goal weight at 5 pounds less than where I thought I should be. I'm kind of hovering "where I thought I should be" so ...  :D

It is KILLING me not to weigh in! Who knew I was so addicted to that scale. I did go shopping this week though and am down another size. Gosh I love FTS!!

How long has it been LOL?  I am so excited every morning to hit that scale and see if there's a change (I know Doug said not to BUT) and the but is if I haven't lost I am a little bummed.  I still feel better even with the little I have lost.  I am working with 10 pound goals and am on the way to the 2nd 10.  Don't know if I have the will power to walk away from the scale yet.

You are rocking!

I think the scale satisfies curiosity more than anything else.
Kind of like watching the news. You might not like what's said, but you watch it anyway.

Just don't let what the scale "says" effect how you feel.
Our bodies go through a lot of adjustments as we get thinner.
Most of those changes will not show up as losses on the scale.

So if you see a slight gain or no change, don't worry about it.
The bottom line is getting healthier and skinnier... And Sherri's certainly doing that by shrinking sizes!
 ;D ;D ;D HOORAY SHERRI!!! ;D ;D ;D

I know you guys. I roll out of bed and hop right on it. It was what I used to gauge my day; how I did the day before on FTS and how to do that day. Now I feel like I out there riding without the training wheels. Sept 2nd is when I pulling it out and getting to weigh again. Will I make it???? AHHH!!

Putting away the scale really worked last month, I did pretty well maintaining!! I was afraid to step on it this morning though, I was sure it would show a five pound gain or something. Thankfully when I did step on it I was thrilled to find I didn't gain, I actually lost three more pounds. I might start weighing weekly but all and all I am super happy with my month without the scale.  :)

Sherripie, you are such an encouragement to me, I been telling all my friends and family about  you and how if you did it in 15 months so can I.
You have given me great HOPE!
I have even more to loose than you did but I REALLY believe I am  going to do it this time. I wear dresses all the time and I wear a size 32 now. In 1984 I was a size 13 and thought I was fat than, Lord knows I will have one big happy dance when I get there again;)
I am only weighing one time a week on Sundays.  When I reach my goal I think I would want to weigh at least once per month, so if I had more than a 3 or 4 pound gain, I could adjust the carbs.
You are a great testimony of what staying with FTS can accomplish!!!! ;D

Hi Sherri! :)

That's fabulous news!.... HOORAY Sherri!!! :) :) :) :)

Yours is a case in point that we do not need a scale to lose weight (http://www.fattoskinny.com/).

The scale is OK for checking our weight once in a while.
But getting obsessed with it and allowing it to dictate how we feel is simply trading our "carb addictions" for "scale addictions".

Wow Sherrie!!!  Congrats.  NEVER let anyone tell you that you can't do something because YOU know better.  To make all these changes in your life and now have complete control has got to feel amazing.

Way to Go!

I STILL hide that damn scale. It makes me completely crazy. Maintaining, all I do is watch my clothes. If they feel a little tight I pull back on what I'm eating and watch my carbs really close. It's been 3 years now and I'm still maintaining and keeping it off. FTS works and it stays off! No scale needed!

Hi, Sherrie! :)

Most healthy people do not live by the scale.
Like you, they use their clothes to let them know if they're gaining.

Congratulations on your continued success being a healthier you! ;D ;D ;D
